Clanfield Parish Council’s car parks at South Lane Meadow, Peel Park and Down Farm Park (St James Place) have been closed following a reported attempt by travellers to gain access to Peel Park this morning.
At Down Farm Park, Bowls Club members can still gain access to visit but the car park will be locked overnight.
Parish Council Chairman, John Bannell, said:
“At about 11.30 am this morning, we received information about caravans being parked in Chalton Lane and a report that the locks on the field gate at Peel Park had been tampered with. We have taken immediate action to protect all vulnerable points of access to Parish Council land and property in the village.
“We do appreciate the considerable inconvenience that this causes but I feel sure that residents will support the decision.”
The car parks will be re-opened as soon as the threat of unauthorised occupation recedes.
