Parish Council Clerk retiring after 34 years' service
Published: 26th July 2021
Diane Duffy, Clanfield Parish Council’s Clerk for 34 years, will be retiring at the end of this week.
At the Council meeting on Tuesday of last week, 20th July, Members paid tribute to her outstanding service to the Council and the village community and wished her all the very best for a long, happy and healthy retirement.
John Bannell (Parish Council Chairman) said:
“Diane has truly earned a place in the history of Clanfield. She has guided the Council through significant changes and considerably increased responsibilities, especially in recent years. There are many people who will wish to thank her for all she has done.”
In 1987, when Diane was appointed as Clerk, the Council looked after Peel Park, the Wellhead, the Pond and Chalton Green. Sunderton Meadow was added in 1991 and South Lane Meadow in 1995 but the really big changes have been in the last decade. The Council now owns and manages over 50 acres of land in the Parish including The Clanfield Centre, which is let to Community First, and the sports pavilion and bowling green at Down Farm Park, which is let to Clanfield Bowls & Sports Club.
Reflecting over the last three decades and more at the Council, Diane says that among the key initiatives have been the preparation of the Clanfield Plan, which was approved in 2009 and which largely informed the provision of the new recreational facilities, and the measures which the Council’s current Community Working Group is bringing forward for youth and for the protection of the environment and biodiversity.
And, looking forward to her retirement, Diane added:
“ I am sure it will feel strange at first but I am looking forward to it. I have lots of things that I want to do. I have enjoyed my time with the Council and the opportunity to meet, and try to help, so many people but I know it is the right time for me to step back from the daily pressures. I am delighted that Katie Knowles will be succeeding me as Clerk and it has been a pleasure working with her on the handover during the last few weeks.” All news
