Clanfield Parish Council is aware that the operators of the Centre, Clanfield Sports and Community Foundation (the Foundation), are taking steps to wind up their affairs and that they will not be running the Centre in the future.

Commenting on this news, Parish Council Chairman, John Bannell, said:

“This is a sad day especially as I know how hard the Trustees and staff of the Foundation have worked to establish the Centre as an important and popular community facility. We thank them for all they have done.

“We are in close touch with the situation. As yet, we don’t know when the property will be handed back to the Parish Council but it is unlikely to be until towards the end of July at the earliest. Only then, when the property is in our possession, will we be able to assess and organise the work that will be required before it could re-open.

“We will be doing all we can to try and ensure that the Centre re-opens under new management for the benefit of the community as soon as it possibly can but, realistically, I think that is likely to be 2 or 3 months away.”

The Parish Council is expected to make a further statement following its virtual meeting on Tuesday evening, 14th July.

In common with all other similar facilities in the UK, the Centre closed in March in response to the Government’s “lockdown” measures to counter the Covid-19 pandemic.
