Clanfield residents passing by the Community Centre this morning will have noticed a healthcare presence. This is because, as from today, the site is being used as a Covid-19 testing facility to assist the national effort to combat the pandemic. This use will continue on selected days for the next two months.
This follows a request to Clanfield Parish Council from the Local Resilience Forum for the use of the site whilst plans are being progressed for the Centre’s re-opening as a community and sports facility. The request was approved unanimously at the most recent Parish Council Meeting on 14 July.
Welcoming this temporary use of the site, Parish Council Chairman, John Bannell, said:
“When we were asked if we could make the site available as a testing facility, we saw this as an excellent way in which our local community could help the National effort. It doesn’t bring any income to the Parish Council but we are able to continue working in the building to get the property ready for its future re-opening and the car park area is not, otherwise, in use at the present time.
“I am sure that residents will know how these testing facilities are operated and strictly controlled. It is entirely safe.”
Whilst the testing facility is open, there will be restrictions on access to the site. However, any inconvenience will be temporary and it won’t be every day. The tennis courts will remain open for use at all times but, on testing days, access will be from Endal Way only and as directed by the site manager.
Clanfield Parish Council is working with Community First to bring forward plans for the re-opening of the Centre - Covid permitting - in the Autumn. All news
