The Parish of Clanfield sits in attractive, open, rural countryside in the District of East Hampshire some 12 miles north of Portsmouth and 6 miles south of Petersfield. The village is almost surrounded in its entirety by the South Downs National Park. The village is, therefore, one of the Southern Gateways to the SDNP.

Clanfield Parish Council

Local councils are the first tier of “council governance” and are the first point of contact for anyone concerned with a community issue.

There are over 10,000 local councils in England and Wales, representing the concerns of local residents and providing services to meet local needs. Parish councils have a wide range of powers including looking after community buildings, management of designated Open Spaces, planning consultation, allocation of grants to local organisations, play areas and equipment, and allotments. They have the power to raise money through council tax.

Local councils are made up of locally elected councillors. They are legally obliged to hold at least one public meeting a year to discuss council business and hear from local residents. In addition to this, any committees or sub-committees dealing with specific subjects must also hold regular open sessions.

Clanfield Parish Council has adopted a strategy “……to put Community, Health &Wellbeing and Sport at the centre of our agenda…..”. Establishing and supporting our Community is at the heart of everything we do.

The Parish Council meets each month on the second Tuesday at 7pm at Clanfield Memorial Hall.

The business of the Parish Council is carried out through Committees. Committee meetings are open to the public (except Staffing & Remuneration) and scheduled on a periodic basis, normally at least 6 times a year.

Currently we operate with the following Committees:

The Finance & General Purposes Committee (F&GPC)

The Finance & General Purposes Committee meets 5 times per year and considers any finance related issues as well as developing the budget and precept for the coming year and other governance responsibilities.

The Staffing & Remuneration Sub-Committee

The Staffing & Remuneration Sub-Committee reports to the Finance & General Purposes Committee and manages all staffing matters. The meetings are ad hoc and not open to the public due to the confidential nature of the matters that are discussed.

The Property Management Committee (PMC)

Ensures that the Parish’s land and property assets are managed and used in accordance with all relevant legal requirements and agreed by Clanfield Parish Council.

Community and Environment Committee

The CEC meets a minimum of 6 times per year and discusses all issues relating to community engagement, social media and environmental activities under the mandate of the Climate Emergency declared by the CPC on June 3rd 2020.

Planning Committee

Clanfield Parish Council is a consultee on all planning applications in the Parish and the Planning Committee considers all planning applications in the parish.
